Olowalu Plantation House Wedding

Wedding photography by Joanna Tano

Olowalu Plantation House is one of the Maui venues I love the most. What makes it so special is the oceanfront setting, the house, palms and greenery and the pier especially at sunset! These Olowalu Plantation House wedding photographs showcase several weddings, showing the scenery and moments from the day ranging from getting ready in the bridal suite to lively receptions on the lawn.

Photographing your wedding at Olowalu

Planning for the light

I like to plan sunset portraits around the light on your wedding day, then work with your planner to leave room for the ceremony, family photographs, and time with your guests at cocktail hour if desired. The schedule will look different depending on whether you have a first look and how much of cocktail hour you want to enjoy. A little breathing room helps the photographs feel relaxed.

Favorite places for portraits

The oceanfront lawn, the pier and the palms and greenery give a beautiful variety. It's good to buffer in a little time for the walk, which can be a lovely part of the photographs, too. Bring slippers to walk out on the pier, it's difficult to walk on the rocks in heels.

Getting ready and weather plans

I recommend getting ready in the bridal suite if possible rather than a at a separate location. It's beautiful and being right there at the venue makes the getting ready photos seamless. Confirm with the venue for your timing. For an outdoor wedding, talk through a weather backup with your planner in advance. I can help you think about how your plans will work for photographs.

Amazing photographer

“Joanna was great to work with. Being from California, getting married in Maui was a destination wedding for us. My Wedding planner recommended Joanna to me and I instantly fell in love with her style. But, I was nervous to work with someone I had never met before. When I contacted her to get more info about her rates, she responded immediately. She sent over samples of photos from all different weddings she had done & made me feel so comfortable. She sent me a questionnaire so she could get to know my style, certain shots I wanted, and what my expectations were.

On the wedding day, she was so attentive, always by my side asking if there were things I wanted shots of, and we connected. She was great at getting our group together for the photos and organizing everyone. She also had worked at our venue many times so she knew the best places for the best photos.

The best part, our photos came about 2.5 weeks after the wedding! That was impressive! We got about 950 photos and they were all AMAZING it's so hard for me to pick my favorites. If you are thinking about booking with Joanna, just do it. She is worth it. I have sent my photos to so many family members & every one of them compliment how amazing the photos are. I couldn't have asked for anything better from a photographer!”
